New worlds.
Changing perspectives.
I moved from Tehran to Colorado Springs in 1978. With enough credits to go straight to college, I opted to go to high school one more year to improve my English and learn more about America.
The differences between my old home and my new one were significant.
My childhood was spent in a place that was hierarchical, deeply respectful, and at times even rigid. Tests and college preparation were taken extremely seriously.
In America, my classmates were diligent in applying to college, but there was also homecoming, senior skip day and prom. The mood was open, informal and fun.
Was one approach better than the other? To this day I can’t say. But I can tell you this:
Caught between two worlds I learned to draw from both.
Multiple perspectives have always been a guiding force, especially with Life Time.
As a corporation, we have to look at many things with cool precision. We talk about the “elegant” solution, the most direct route to the answer, the bottom line.
But as a profoundly human business, we look at and feel energy and endorphins, passion and enthusiasm, communities and connections.
“I love my team.”
We live in a place where souls are nourished, movement is medicine, and potential is realized.
Our company has transformed. It’s no longer just a workout. It’s essential. It’s a Healthy Way of Life.
And with this lens, we continue to look forward. The world continues to change, and it’s more important than ever to seek new ways not only to do business helping people with all the aspects of their well-being, but to contribute to a greater good, as we do all things with love. This will not be done with math, and there isn’t a direct route, but certain aspects of science and knowledge, wisdom and experience shine a light on our collective way forward.
And it’s in that spirit, there are two things I’m excited about.
