Self Analysis

What if a business didn’t do any self analysis; no performance reviews, shareholders meeting, accounting department, inventory control, or scheduling? It would seem broken and strange. Yet as individuals we seem content to spend very little time reflecting on our own reality. We rarely give ourselves feedback.

Life Time counts  memberships every day. We know how many have joined and how many have left, which clubs have an increased  traffic and who’s down. Even with hundreds of thousands of members across the country we treat this as if we were a mom-and-pop store closing out the cash register at the end of the day. Why?

Daily assessments give you the opportunity to fix mistakes when they’re small.

If we only checked memberships once a month we might be faced with a seemingly large downtick in numbers without understanding why. By measuring daily we spot negative trends as they’re happening and put energy into solving potential problems before they get out of hand.

By frequently checking memberships daily we’re also making problem-solving part of our daily diet.

Challenges are less challenging when dealing with them is routine.

We don’t let mistakes become habits. We correct rather than adapt. When we see change happening over time we feel a greater sense of control and accountability.

Your life works the same way. Let’s say that you consider yourself a kind person. One day you’re in a bad mood and rude to everyone. If you were to reflect on your behavior that night you’d catch your mistake. You’d remind yourself you value kindness and promise yourself to do better the next day.

If you don’t reflect, you miss that opportunity. You risk allowing the negative behavior to become part of yourself. If you continue on the same path, a few years later you can lose sight of your values. You’re not a kind person who had a bad day and then righted yourself. Now you’re a jerk who doesn’t even realize what you’ve become.

The truth is that

without self-reflection there can be no growth. Without growth there can be no success.
